Papplewick & Linby Day Centre

The Day Centre was opened on 4th July 1997 and meets at 10.30am each Friday in the Bradbury Suite at Papplewick & Linby Village Hall.

The Centre caters for the over 60s age group who are in need of company and friendship after a bereavement or an illness, or maybe they are just lonely and can’t get out to socialise. Members should reside in the ecclesiastical parishes of Papplewick & Linby. We aim to provide a fun filled day, where new friendships can be formed and some good home cooked food can be enjoyed.

For those who need it, transport is provided from door to door by volunteer drivers.

On arrival the members are greeted with coffee and biscuits and told any details of forthcoming events or visits. The rest of the morning is very much their own, some like a game of cards, some scrabble and some a real good natter and catch up! At 12.30pm lunch is served fresh from the kitchen, most of the ingredients come from the village, either grown in local gardens or donated by the local farmers. There is often a nice glass of wine to celebrate a birthday or other special occasion. After lunch, tea or coffee is served. The afternoon is taken up usually with a quiz; some members prefer dominoes or other activities so all are happy. At 3pm tea and homemade cake is served and always enjoyed by all.

At around 3.30pm members are transported home.

We enjoy a range of outings throughout the year and also arrange fundraising events.

The current charge for membership is £10 per session and this includes transport, all meals and activities.

We are always looking for new members and also volunteer helpers. Anyone interested is welcome to come and look around on Friday mornings between 11am and 12pm. All welcome.

The Day Centre is also self-funding so any donations are always gratefully received.
