Moor Pond Woods are located between Papplewick, Hucknall and Linby, close to the B683 and B6011. The woods are important for their wildlife and archaeology.
The site was developed by the Robinson family in the late 18th century as a system to supply water to their cotton mills. Today the woods are owned by the Co-operative and managed, in partnership, by Nottinghamshire County Council and the Friends of Moor Pond Woods. It is a haven for wildlife – including invertebrates, amphibians, birds, bats, fungi and flowers.
In 1999, Papplewick Parish Council agreed to mark the Millennium by developing the site as a valuable permanent recreational resource to be used by local people.
Now, 20 years later, much has been achieved – thanks to the generous financial support of various groups, and the hard work of volunteers from the community.
